Exploring FreshFest in West Palm Beach

FreshFest made its second appearance in West Palm Beach. The subculture of health- and fitness-nuts thoroughly enjoyed the free event.

The grassy base of the Meyer Amphitheatre was divided into areas with plant names such as Zinnia and Azalea.Various fitness  classes and demonstrations were held there. Vendors circled around the perimeter, just like last year.

Here are some photos from the packed FreshFest event:

Learning how to box from the pros in the Azalea area

at Title Boxing Club in Palm Beach Gardens.
Strength-conditioning competition in the Azalea area

overseen by a Title Boxing Club employee.

Bootcamp drill in the Azalea area

led by Ncognito staff in downtown West Palm Beach.

Kids Yoga in the Acacia area run

by the Balanced Guru in Boca Raton.

Cycling in the Dahlia area

sponsored by Ultima Fitness in downtown West Palm Beach.
At the Gyrokinesis class in the Zinnia area

led by Gyrotonic Santam in West Palm Beach, I saw two yoga friends, Caroline
von Feilitzsch and Ken Bohannon. I use to work with both at the Palm Beach Post.
Next, I stopped by the Barre workout in the Iris area

where I saw this young girl wearing a headband with two red hearts because it
was Valentine's Day. An instructor from the Xtend Barre studio led the class.

Acro Yoga practitioners in the Azalea area

caught my eye. This young girl seemed so limber.

The head of the YOGiiZA studio in Miami Beach acted as the spotter for this couple.

My favorite vendor was the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, which gave out free Florida native trees -- even if you did not live in West Palm Beach. I picked a seagrape for my backyard.

The free trees were courtesy of the Henry Entertainment
 Group
that was behind the Slide the City event in downtown
West Palm Beach that same day -- Valentine's Day.

I regret that I could not stay for Priyanka Shanbag's yoga class that started at 4 p.m. But since I already took a yoga class with her early Saturday morning at the West Palm Beach library, I am hoping she understands. Loved the chocolate caramel that Priyanka gave to each of us at the end of class. Such a sweet gesture on Valentine's Day!

And now, for my numbers

I had my best walking day last week on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 when I walked:

Steps: 14,068
Miles: 7.0
