Let's Move Boot Camp in downtown West Palm Beach

Trendy GreenMarket shoppers stopped to see
what the Boot Camp participants were doing.
It was already in the 80s even though it wasn't quite 10 a.m. Saturday. But I still went to check out the Let's Move Boot Camp near the West Palm Beach GreenMarket.

Trainer Anthony Webb from Ultima Fitness Downtown took the small group through six stations. First, he checked each person's form to make sure each one knew how to lift the barbell or medicine ball correctly. Then he had each person do 10 repetitions, followed by a whistle, a 10-second rest and repeat nine times and switch stations. Got that?

Yes, the sweat was just pouring off the faces and bodies of each of the seven participants. I did not want to get sweaty just then because I was going to yoga at the Mandel Public Library. I surely would become glistening then.

So, ahem, I just took pictures.

a fitness rope and Reggie Dee of radio station X102.3
lifts a medicine ball.

The woman with the medicine ball moved along to the
barbell station where trainer Webb was standing
to her right.

Even to the east,, near Flagler Drive, there were onlookers.

The Boot Camp is part of the month-long Let's Move campaign, created by the Palm Healthcare Foundation in cooperation with CBS 12 and Palm Beach Broadcasting. The broadcasting company owns four radio stations including Reggie Dee's. The Let's Move initiative wants county residents to complete and log at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day in the month of January.

Palm Healthcare, started from the proceeds from the sale of Good Samaritan and St. Mary's medical centers, was started to improve the health of Palm Beach County residents. It's based in downtown West Palm Beach, a good location for its semi-weekly walks on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On each of those days, a group leaves from the 700 S. Dixie Highway building at 5 p.m. to walk around the city, says Marge Sullivan, vice president of communications.

This year, Aaron Wormus of aGuyOnClematis fame and I created Team Extra Steppers. Please join us and log your minutes here and remember to choose the Team Extra Steppers.

I hope to make the Thursday walk and I will definitely participate in the Boot Camp next Saturday. No yoga, so no excuses. Hope to see you there!

And now, for my numbers

I had my best walking day last week on Friday, Jan. 10, 2013 when I walked:

Steps: 10,330
Miles: 5.2
